Happy Easter!

Although I don’t personally celebrate Easter, I wish everyone love and peace today.  Also, Shalom to my friends celebrating Passover!

I had a great time with the Barnwell and Ortega families yesterday – even though the wind was fierce, we got some great pictures!

Smiles to all,

Roberta

Springtime in California

I am in Palm Springs visiting my Uncle Dick and Ken this week.  It is already sunny, warm, and 70 degrees.  Geez!!!  I am definately a Colorado girl – the hot this quick in the season….no thank you!

My Uncle Kenny is in a nursing home after numerous strokes, falls, and a Parkinson’s diagnosis.  I missed visiting my grandmother before she passed and I was determined not to let that happen again.  These are the people who loved and supported me no matter what happened in my life.  They are wonderful people, and they are part of me.  I am saddened to see my birthday buddy (we were born on the same day….43 years apart) in such a state as where he is at at this time in his life, but a friend shared a perspective with me – it had to do with how our spirits take this time to prepare to enter whatever “afterlife” they are headed to – in other words, they may be unable to communicate with us in this life anymore (which is where my Uncle is at), but they are already communicating with the “other side” and re-charging for the journey.  Unique perspective.

Photography is WAY better than “real” job hunting!

So, I am on the hunt for a “real” job…..you know, the one that pays the bills, keeps food on the table, lights on – yeah – that kind.  My last company laid me off as of Feb 28th and I think I have put in about 150 resumes since that evening.  Nothing….nada….ok, well, if I want to be an insurance agent, or phone sex operator, then I am good to go – but administration, management – I am one in a million….linterally, I think.

But I’ll just keep swimming (as Dory would say).

I know you are asking (ok, maybe you’re not) Berta – why don’t you just do photography as a full time job?  I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to – and I have put the word out, so maybe, just maybe……

but until then its Craigslist, Hotjobs, Monster, and Yahoo – wish me luck!

Smiles!

Professional Photographers Carry Liability Insurance

A true professional will make sure that they are covered in case of any accident while working on the job.  In traditional business it would be the equivalent of Workman’s Comp insurance.  Workman’s Comp protects the employer and employee should there be an accident on the job.

Liability insurance for a photographer is essential.  It protects you, your equipment, your clients, and their guests against accidents.  Case in point – I was photographing a wedding for a couple in where I was shooting a large family shot.  All of a sudden, I not only had MY camera, but about 6 others from family members all wanting me to take a shot with their cameras.  Well, you guess it – I dropped one!  I FELT awful, but was able to tell the guests that I would happily replace their camera as I had liability insurance to cover the damaged camera.

I have since stopped taking pictures with other’s cameras, but I was glad to have my Liability insurance in place to help cover the costs of an accidental “ooops”.

Berta

First Wedding of the Season

This Saturday is my first wedding of the 2010 season.  The Rose Wedding is sure to be a fun and wonderful day – the couple is awesome, laid back, and ready to have a great time with friends and family.

Exciting News – Antonio and I are starting to get some emails about special events for the summer!!  I am eager to get out there and capture the fun this summer!

On the home front, we’ve been passing around the bug, I am on the hunt for another “job” (gosh I wish I could do photography full time), I am headed to California on the 8th of March to visit my birthday buddy and Uncle Kenny, who is in a nursing home and not expected to come back home….I’m gonna go spend some time with him and Uncle Dick.  Then….back to work, or finding work – that is.

But all in all, life is good!

Bonnie and Christie’s Beautiful Ceremony

I am so thrilled to see two dear friends make their commitment to each other this weekend.  Not only am I photographing, I was the planner…..totally FUN, but a LOT of work.  I think I’ll stick to photography.

Bonnie introduced Tina and I, and I have known her forever – I have watched as her and Christie’s relationship has grown and blossom and am excited to see share their love with everyone.

Congrats and much love !!!

Please welcome Antonio Bailon Dominguez to the SE team!

I am very proud to announce the addition of another photographer to the Silent Expressions team.  Antonio has been photographing professionally for many years, most recently in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico as part of the Vallarta Adventures Photography Staff.  His style is very creative, unique, and detailed.  Seeing him work is amazing, he waits, sometimes forever, for that perfect shot and captures it.  No one ever understood why I would wait sooooo long for a shot (nature, animals, etc.) but the sense of perfection is addicting, and Antonio has that same sense.  In addition to his detailed shooting,  his candid and action shots are fantastic, capturing the moment at the perfect time and saving the emotion of “that” moment for a lifetime.

Antonio’s specialties include Weddings, Quinceañeras, Baptisms, and Traditional Spanish events.  To see some samples of his work, visit his page listed under Antonio in the Galleries section.

Welcome Antonio!!

Smiles,

Roberta
