HAPPY NEW YEAR – and a new shoulder!

2012 is already shaping up to be quite a new year!  The “real” job laid me off after two years of working for them – major bummer, however, it allowed me to get a very much needed shoulder surgery done before wedding season this year!  Dr. Schneider of Cornerstone Orthopeadic in Wheat Ridge, CO did an AMAZING job – gave me the full “lube, oil, and filter change” as he put it (bone spur removal, tendon exsision, more shaving of overgrown bone and other messy stuff, yuck).  I am SORE and have a physical therapy road ahead of me, but I look forward to pain free photography soon!

Speaking of that “real” job thing – several friends have told me that I should pursue photography full time – wish with all my heart that I could – maybe soon!

Hoping your new year is off to an amazing start as well!

Smiles,

Roberta

Silent Expressions goes International!

A Brazillian Buddhist Organization contacted me about using one of my photos for one of their CD’s.  Here’s the final product – WAY cool!

Now we can say we are Internationally known….recognized?  Gotta look into that one.

Roberta

With Love to Japan

My sister taught in Japan for a couple years through a great program called JET that brought American teachers to Japan to teach English to students.  During this time she connected with many wonderful people.  She lived and worked in Miyagi which is now virtually gone due to the Tsunami – the pictures and video and personal stories we are hearing from her friends are heartbreaking.  Please send you thoughts, prayers, and support to Japan at this time.  Thank you.

What Happened to Work Ethic?

OK….bit of a rant here, but what happened to good work ethic?  You come to work when you are suppose to, if you are running late you call, you work your 8 hours with a lunch and occasional break, and you go home – thankful that every two weeks or so you get some money for doing so. Sure, there is always an occasional sick day, vacation day, or as I like to call it – mental health day – but EVERY DAY???  2-3 times a week????  And when you return, you have to take a day to catch everyone up on what happened – thus pulling others away from their work, and now NOTHING gets done until…..wait for it…..CRISIS!!  That’s right, crisis mode – when they people haven’t done what they are suppose to and it falls on YOU to clean it up.

Ok…..so really….what happened?  Entitlement, laziness, lack of desire, silver spoon mentality?

I LOVE working, I LOVE seeing the results of a job well done – sometimes I HATE it…..certain days, times, etc. but overall I am greatful.  Then, on the side I get to do what I truely LOVE….all the time….no matter what – photography!!  I always fear that if I turn it into the full time “job” that I will find the same issues as the job I have now.

Life…..it goes on!

Resolutions…..?? Eh, who needs em!

So every year I make that one resolution to lose weight, get healthy, workout more (ok….anything would be more) and I never complete my task.  I started thinking about WHY I don’t follow through with my resolves…..and I STILL have no answer.  I think it may be the word itself….RESOLUTION.  It seems really permanent, like there is no wiggle room, like a command – and that scares me.  I don’t like being told that I CAN’T do anything – because if I did what people told me I couldn’t, I wouldn’t be a photographer….and that would be sad.

So, I think I will try and choose to do things differently this year.  Make an attempt to have fun working out through Zumba or Drums Alive.  Eat better by trying some vegetarian meals and through the process I hope I will lose some weight.  Whew…that feels better.

I also want to make sure I get my butt into some classes and learn more about studio lighting – not that I want to do a lot of studio work, but it is something new and different, and it never hurts to learn.

Here’s to a relaxed, hopeful, welcoming 2011

I LOVE this time of year

It’s the holiday season…a time of year where most people soften…..if only just a little – because of the excitement that surrounds us during this time.

I love the fireplace lit, stockings, Christmas tree, cinnamon smells, and holiday tunes.

People just seem more relaxed (well…..not the Black Friday people…)

Happy Holidays to you and yours,

Berta
